Gene R. Howard, M.D. is an oculoplastic surgeon with Carolina Eyecare Physicians. In 2011 Dr. Howard spent nearly a week in Vietnam performing surgery and training local professionals. Howard’s trip was orchestrated by ORBIS International, an organization working to save sight worldwide.

Over the past 20 years, Howard’s teaching has earned him a worldwide reputation. The trip to Vietnam was not his first, and it was his ninth ORBIS-organized educational project.In the past, he has taught in Hanoi, as well as India, Jordan, Ethiopia, Paraguay, and Myanamar. Dr. Howard has been asked by ORBIS to go to the Philippines in February of 2012 to train oculoplastic surgeons in the area.
